Consultation on the revised directions to the Regulator of Social Housing: Tenant Involvement and Mutual Exchange - our response

03 April 2023

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has been consulting on new directions to the Regulator relating to tenant involvement and mutual exchange.

Views were gathered on a number of small, but important changes to existing directions covering tenant involvement and mutual exchange to support the implementation of the new consumer regime.

We spoke to our members to gather feedback on this consultation, and have published these in a sector-wide response.

Summary of our response

We support the Social Housing White Paper and stronger consumer regulation and are already working with our members to address questions about transparency and accountability in our sector. We also welcome the consultation and support the strengthened outcomes set out in the direction.

We agree that tenants should have access to a wide range of opportunities to get involved in matters related to their housing and support requirements for registered providers to offer support for tenants to use the mutual exchange service.
