Rent Reduction Procedures: Federation Response and Member Briefing

On Tuesday 10th November, the Government issued their direction to the Tenant Services Authority on rents from 2010/11.

The Federation has outlined its position and view of that direction in a letter to its members.

A briefing is also available which provides guidance to housing associations who have made a decision to reduce rents. The procedure to reduce or freeze rents is different from the legal procedure required to increase rents.

The National Housing Federation produced a support pack to help tenant groups to get involved in the current rents debate and related issues. The pack was designed to facilitate discussions between local people on the Government’s consultation about the Tenant Services Authority’s approach to rents, accommodation and tenant involvement and was endorsed by the Tenants and Residents Organisations of England (TAROE).
