The Federation's new chair Matthew Taylor launched the
election manifesto at an event attended by around 30 MPs.
22 October 2009
Around 30 MPs, including three former Housing Ministers, yesterday attended the Parliamentary launch of the Federation’s election manifesto, The tools for success.
The event, hosted by Federation chair Matthew Taylor, and chief executive David Orr, was attended by MPs from each of the three major parties – including former Housing Ministers David Curry MP, Nick Raynsford MP and Caroline Flint MP.
Matthew Taylor and David Orr both addressed the event, which was also attended by three peers, and highlighted the major points in the manifesto – which lists the policies that the next government should introduce to deal with the nation’s housing crisis.
Federation members from across the country also attended the event.
The publication also makes clear how housing associations can help deliver both the desperately needed economic recovery and thousands of new affordable homes for the millions in housing need.
The Tools for success includes sections on:
- Building homes and using unsold properties
- Making our housing greener
- Reforming the allocations policy
- Improving access to home ownership
- Supporting vulnerable and older people
- Tackling financial exclusion and fuel poverty.
A panel of members from a cross-section of housing associations helped to develop the policy proposals and ensure they are reflective of the whole sector.
The next general election will be one of the most important for many years, with a high number of MPs stepping down and a new generation of politicians entering parliament.
We are encouraging all of our members to get in touch with their local candidates, whether sitting MPs or opposition, and ask them to support our policy proposals.
