Earlier this week, the National Housing Federation, Chartered Institute of Housing and National Federation of ALMOs made a joint submission to the 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review.
Our submission takes place against a difficult economic backdrop of fiscal austerity and budget cuts.
We have responded to this by outlining the level of public spending required to protect existing services and in particular housing related support services.
We also address the on-going debate over proposed changes to the housing benefit system and underline the sector's commitment to working with government in continuing to provide more high quality new affordable homes to address the housing crisis.
We will continue to make the case for government support for the restructuring of regional housing and labour markets.
The submission clearly sets out the 'green challenge' we face in working to improve the energy efficiency of our existing homes and suggests a number of mechanisms that government can adopt to help meet these costs.
And we have illustrated the value of work that the housing sector does in maintaining the quality of its existing homes and identified where public support for the Gap Funding and ALMOs programmes is necessary to ensure quality homes for all tenants.
We will continue to engage with members on the Spending Review across the summer as discussions with government develop in advance of the announcement in October.
