Housing Benefit reform - response to Supporting people into work
10 March 2010
The Department for Work and Pensions has recently consulted on the future of Housing Benefit, with a focus on how it can support people to enter work, how it can be made more efficient and represent better value for money.
The proposals include fixed-period awards, so that claimants' rates of Housing Benefit would not be affected by, for example, changes in the number of hours worked from one week to the next. The proposals also raise the question of whether Housing Benefit could pay for an extra bedroom for people who need occasional live-in or overnight care.
