Find out more about our partnership with
British Gas, with a special offer available only to members.
Since the launch of Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) in April
2010 for small scale renewable electricity generation, many housing
associations have been keen to explore the opportunities open to
them and not lose out on significant savings.
Under the FiT scheme, energy suppliers make
regular payments to householders and organisations that generate
their own electricity from low carbon sources such as photo-voltaic
(solar PV) and wind.
The Federation is aware there are several
different options in this arena available to members and has
negotiated a special, fully funded rent-a-roof offer from British
Gas to install solar panels on the roofs of members’
housing.
Offer for members
British Gas’ special offer to Federation
members includes:
- Fully paid-for and installed solar PV on
appropriate properties
- Full maintenance and insurance for 25
years
- Energy audits and advice for householders
with each survey
- British Gas Energy Saver Packs
- A share of the feed-in-tariff, providing a
minimum of £30 per installation, per year for 25 years.*
Independent review
The National Housing Federation has
commissioned Trowers & Hamlins LLP to prepare an
overview of British Gas' suite of legal documents relating to the
installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels. If you are a housing
association and would like a copy of the overview please email
Emma
Hodges.
We think this offer represents a useful
addition to our members’ range of options. Whatever solution you
ultimately select for your organisation please remember to start
early so that installations are in place before the tariff reduces
in April 2012.
For full details of the offer visit www.britishgas.co.uk/nhfoffer
or download
the information sheet (opens new window).
* Subject to survey and availability. To be
eligible installations must generate in excess of 1,700 kWh a year
which approximately equates to a minimum 2kWp system or 16 square
meters of PV arrays.
Update on offer
*In October, DECC announced a review of the feed in tariffs and set
a cut-off date to register installations that will benefit from the
current FIT rates.
Following the announcement, British Gas has regrettably
withdrawn its promotion of fully financed installations of solar
photovoltaic systems until the results of the consultation are
known. DECC invite responses to the consultation by 23 December
2011. The consultation document and full details can be found here:
http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/consultations/fits_comp_rev1/fits_comp_rev1.aspx.
British Gas will continue to install solar PV systems outside of
the original promotion. For further information, please contact
your local British Gas representative via the links
below.
