Course aim
The aim of this one day workshop is to provide an overview of
the roles and responsibilities of board members of housing
organisations.
What you will learn
By the end of this workshop delegates will have developed an
understanding of:
- The importance of getting started quickly – what to read, what
to do, who to speak to
- The roles and responsibilities of board members, including a
brief overview of the National Housing Federation
- Excellence in Governance code for members
- The legal liabilities of board members
- Managing the paperwork – making it work for you
- Effectiveness at board meetings – asking the challenging
questions
- Developing your own skills and knowledge
- The role of the board member outside the organisation.
Course style
Presentation, group work, paired discussion, open discussion,
quiz.
Who should attend?
New board members – independent directors, resident members and
local authority nominees.
