Ideally, participants should have had approximately three months’ experience before attending this course.

The aim of this one day course is to provide an overview and understanding of the social housing sector and the environment within which housing associations operate.

  • The origins of social housing, the purpose and aims of housing associations
  • An overview of the people housed by housing associations
  • An introduction to the funding of housing associations
  • Key changes in recent times and the effect on the different functions eg finance, development and housing management
  • The relationship with other bodies such as local authorities, the regulatory body and the Homes and Communities Agency
  • The work and structure of different types of housing associations.
