We’re recruiting for a North East member for FPAG

We are seeking a new member for the finance policy advisory group from the North East.

25 October 2019

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Federation policy-making, with high quality facilitation and support from our staff, during a time of real change in the sector.

This group helps to inform the programme for our Finance Conference and other finance-related events, and support campaigns, media and press work. It also provides a route for early warning of ‘what’s working and what’s not’ on the ground and helps to identify financial barriers and opportunities for the sector.

What we’re looking for

Members must be staff of organisations affiliated to the National Housing Federation. The new member will be selected in a fair and transparent way, and the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Group will assist staff from the Federation to ensure consistency in the process.

The group does not seek to be wholly representative (there is no vote or mandate), but will encourage genuine diversity of members. The following factors will be taken into consideration when assessing applications:

  • The need to ensure the group is diverse in terms of type and size of association.
  • The need to ensure a diversity of skills and expertise among the individual members of the group.

The housing associations that are members of the group are diverse in both type and size and are from a range of geographical locations. The Chair is Nathan Mallows, Director of Finance at Coastline Housing and the Vice Chair is Phil Elvy, Director of Finance at Great Places Housing.

Meetings and commitment

  • You will need to attend at least 3 of the 4 core meetings a year.
  • You will need to attend the North East regional finance forum proving an important link between the two groups.
  • Includes some activity in between meetings so that group is able to effectively contribute to and shape the Federation’s finance policy work.

How to apply

To apply to the group, please fill out this short form and return to Lawrence Morris. Applications will be considered by the Chair, the Vice-Chair and Federation staff and there will be no interview process. The deadline is close of play on Friday 20 December 2019 and we will be able to notify all candidates of the outcome by Friday 10 January 2020.

Please note that the first meeting will take place on Tuesday 17 March 2020. This will be held on the morning of our Finance Conference in Liverpool.

For an informal chat about the group and its work, feel free to get in touch with Lawrence Morris, Policy Officer, or with John Butler, Policy Leader.

Please note that membership is by association as well as individual, so nominating substitutes for meetings will not be permitted. We are unable to pay travel expenses unless travel costs are a significant barrier to participation. Please let us know if this is the case.

Please see our terms of reference.
