The housing crisis

During the general election, the housing crisis was barely mentioned and yet over a million children live in overcrowded accommodation.

We're now building fewer houses than at any point since the Second World War. There are now 4.5 million people in housing need.

It’s time for every MP in the country to mention the housing crisis.

Ceecee, 27, London

‘I live in a one bedroom ground floor flat with my two boys who are aged three and eight. When I went to the council to ask how long it could take for me to move, they told me to turn my living room into a bedroom, just keep on bidding, look for home exchange or go private. I don’t know what to do because I’ve been doing everything and three years later I’m still here.’

Jobseeker injustice

We are delighted to announce that the jobseeker injustice has been withdrawn from government plans. This means that people who simply cannot find work for more than 12 months will not be penalised further by a 10% cut to their housing benefit.
