Welfare Action

Join us to campaign against the Government's welfare changes which will push thousands of people living in social housing into hardship or out of their homes.

Information for MPs

The Federation is urging the Government to reconsider these punitive measures and look again at what the true costs of pushing ahead with them would be.

Take action on unfair bedroom tax

The Government's proposed welfare changes will push thousands of people living in social housing into hardship or out of their homes.

Help us campaign by emailing the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander MP, and ask him to protect vulnerable people from the bedroom tax.

Victory in the LordsWestminster

Peers have voted against Government plans to slash the housing benefit of social tenants deemed to be ‘under-occupying’ their homes.

An amendment by Lord Best to exempt from the bedroom tax families with just one additional bedroom who are unable to move to a smaller property was supported by 258 to 190.

This is a victory for fairness and we will continue the campaign to ensure the decision is not reversed in the House of Commons.

Christmas Card Action

Thousands of tenants sent personalised Christmas cards to Members of the House of Lords about the true cost of the Government's welfare reform proposals on the run-up to the vote on Lord Best's amendments.

Welfare Action Week, 10 Oct 2011

We launched Welfare Action Week, a national week of action beginning on 10 October 2011, to highlight the harsh reality of these changes and to campaign against them.

This week of action was a huge success. Hundreds of housing associations, their staff and tenants contacted the Minister for Welfare Reform directly about the punitive measures proposed by the Government.
