Government announces additional £80m under Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund

02 October 2023

On Monday 2 October, Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Claire Coutinho announced up to £80m in additional funding will be made available through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

We responded with a quote from NHF Chief Executive Kate Henderson who welcomed the announcement saying:

“Decarbonising social homes is a win-win-win when you take into account the improvement for residents’ health and the affordability of their energy bills, the opportunities to create green jobs, and of course the longer term impact on the environment, which we all ultimately benefit from.”

The announcement came not long after the Prime Minister recently rowed back on several net zero pledges. However, this additional funding, alongside the government's continued commitment to consult on minimum energy efficiency standards in the social rented sector highlights the ongoing importance of decarbonising the country's social homes.
