The Green Deal is the Government's new
initiative to improve the energy efficiency of all existing homes
without up-front costs.
The Federation supports the objectives and key
principles of the Green Deal, but believes significant changes to
the detailed policy proposals are needed to make it workable in the
social rented sector.
How does it work?
The Green Deal is a market driven approach to improving the
energy efficiency of British properties. Consumers will be
offered energy efficiency improvements to their
homes with the costs recouped through a
charge on their energy bills.
The Green Deal will be delivered in conjunction with the new
Energy Company Obligation (ECO).
What is the Energy Company Obligation?
The new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) will be used to fund
energy efficiency improvements for vulnerable households and 'hard
to treat' homes.
The Energy Company Obligation replaces the previous obligations
of
CERT and
CESP.
What is the Federation doing?
The Federation has been lobbying to ensure that the Green Deal
works for the social rented sector.
