Tackling unfair practices in the leasehold market

The Government has consulted on proposed changes to the law governing sales of leasehold property, ground rents, and related issues.

18 September 2017

These changes are designed to address growing concerns about the use by some private property companies of ground rents and other charges to derive a profit stream from home owners.

Our response agrees that this is a serious abuse and supports the Government’s intention to legislate. However, we suggest a number of detailed changes to the Government’s proposals.
