Working together to end the housing crisis in the West of England

On the 4 May the people of the City of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire will have the opportunity to elect a Metro Mayor for the new West of England Combined Authority.

The West of England Combined Authority is made up of three of the local authorities in the region – Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire. In May 2017, Tim Bowles, Conservative was elected to be the Metro Mayor the West of England Combined Authority.

As the Metro Mayor of one of the strongest economies outside London, Mayor Bowles has important new powers for housing, planning and improving the infrastructure of the area.

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and Local Enterprise Partnership have recently launched the West of England Regional Strategy discussion paper.

The strategy discussion paper sets out high-level plans for delivering economic growth for the region. The strategy revolved around three pillars:

  • Businesses that succeed
  • World class skills for employment
  • Infrastructure fit for the future
