Priory Street Centre, 15 Priory Street, York YO1 6ET

At a time when housing associations are dealing with an increasingly complex and demanding operating environment, the nature of regulation is also changing.

The Government has indicated its wish for more stringent consumer regulation in the social housing sector, and housing associations will also be affected by the proposed abolition of no-fault possession (section 21), which calls into question the future role of assured shorthold tenancies in the sector.

The Federation has recognized that the Code of Governance, last revised in 2015, needs to be updated to reflect changing demands on the sector, and has begun the process of discussion and consultation.

These two events, in London and York, offer an opportunity for members to stay abreast of these developments and to contribute to discussion about how the sector, and the Federation, should respond.
