Temporary changes at the NHF in response to coronavirus

17 April 2020

Kate Henderson, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation says:

"Like so many organisations across the country, the National Housing Federation is facing significant practical and financial challenges caused by the coronavirus crisis. Our conference income has been hit particularly hard by social distancing measures. The NHF's priorities will always be the wellbeing of our staff and delivering an excellent service for our members. To help us to continue to do both through these uncertain times and for the long-term, we have made some difficult decisions about the way we work right now.

"As well as postponing some of our major events and pausing longstanding projects to focus on issues created by the crisis, we have reduced a number of our budgets and have asked a third of our team to take furlough leave. We hope these temporary measures will help to put us on a secure footing to do what we are here to do - be the voice for the housing association sector."

Key information about the changes

  • The NHF has rescheduled 8 events to date. We are currently looking into delivering a number of conferences online. Our conference and member event schedule is under constant review while social distancing guidance is in place.
  • A third of the Federation's team has been furloughed from across the organisation from 20 April to 31 May.
  • Longstanding projects including Together with Tenants, the Housing Futures Programme and our Great Places work will be temporarily paused. These work areas remain a priority for the NHF but have become difficult to deliver without resource and won't have the impact they deserve while the sector rightly focuses on meeting their tenants and employees needs through this unprecedented health and economic crisis. Work will resume on all projects at the earliest opportunity.
