Phase two of the No Homeless Veterans campaign launched

17 May 2022

Today at the House of Lords, we joined organisations from the housing and homelessness sector, Armed Forces charities, MPs from all parties, and local authority leaders to launch a new phase of a campaign to end homelessness among Armed Forces veterans.

We are helping to deliver the No Homeless Veterans campaign alongside Homeless Link. The campaign is led by the Cobseo (Confederation of Service Charities) Housing Cluster, coordinated by Stoll and funded by the Forces in Mind Trust. This is an important and coordinated, cross sector campaign that is working to ensure veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are supported to ensure they receive the support they’re entitled to.

Help to find appropriate housing is available for former service personnel, but sometimes when someone leaves the Armed Forces they struggle to navigate the system and can miss out because they aren’t identified as a veteran. The campaign is calling on local authorities, housing associations and homelessness organisations to ‘think veteran’, include them in housing strategies, and help them find suitable housing as quickly as possible.

Earlier this year, housing associations were asked to complete a survey ahead of the campaign. The results of this bench marking survey have helped improve our understanding of how housing associations work with veterans at the moment and will shape the campaign going forwards. Thank you to all those who contributed to this process.

Going forwards we will continue to publicise the campaign and will be promoting good practice guidance, toolkits and case studies with our members. We will also be supporting the campaign team who will be running a series of free briefings and online training over the coming months.

Keep an eye out for further information about how you can get involved in our newsletters, social media and on our website over the coming months. Find out more about the campaign on the dedicated website. Alternatively, get in touch with our team if you want to find out more.
