Following an extensive review involving members, residents and stakeholders, the updated code reflects today’s expectations around behaviour, culture, accountability and resident involvement. It has been designed to help housing associations meet the requirements of the new Competence and Conduct Standard, including the expectation to have an appropriate code of conduct in place by October 2026.

During this session, we will:

  • Introduce the new Code of Conduct 2026 and the rationale for its review.
  • Highlight the key changes shaped by feedback from survey respondents, residents, members and stakeholders.
  • Explain the five principles at the heart of the code:
  1. Acting in the best interests of residents and the housing association.
  2. Behaving with integrity.
  3. Treating others fairly, with respect and empathy.
  4. Taking responsibility for the impact of your actions.
  5. Acting with diligence and care.
  • Discuss how the code supports compliance with the Competence and Conduct Standard.
  •  Share practical advice on adopting and adapting the code locally, including meaningful resident involvement.
