The Federation has published its response to the Department for Work and Pensions proposals to change the payment of housing benefit for supported and sheltered housing.
13 October 2011
The Federation's response to DWP's proposals for housing benefit in supported and sheltered housing warns that major reform risks destabilising a sector that houses vulnerable people and has demonstrated huge net cost savings to the public purse. We welcome the separate proposals for registered providers to continue to pay actual rents and service charges. We have strong concerns about increased referrals to rent officers and the long-term integration into Universal Credit. Beyond the consultation we are pushing Government to make a comprehensive response to the sector's feedback and consult further on any specific proposals.
