We’ve responded to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)‘s consultation on leasehold reform.
23 November 2018
This consultation forms part of a number of reviews initiated by MHCLG designed to deal with abuses that have emerged in the housing market.
In its consultation, MHCLG is seeking views on limiting ground rents to £10 per annum and banning the sale of new homes on long leases (with certain exceptions).
Our response agrees that legislation is urgently needed and offers general support for the Government's proposals.
We welcome the fact that the Government has accepted our argument, made in our previous submission in September 2017, that shared ownership housing should be entirely exempt from the ban on new leasehold houses (rather than the partial exemption the Government proposed in 2017).
