Help shape our response to the government’s consultation on the Infrastructure Levy

04 April 2023

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) is currently consulting on the proposed Infrastructure Levy, seeking views on the technical aspects of its design.

The Levy, which was introduced under the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, will fundamentally change how affordable housing is delivered, and is the government’s proposed new way of calculating developer contributions towards affordable housing and infrastructure – replacing current arrangements under Section 106.

As outlined in our letter to Michael Gove MP, we have concerns that the Infrastructure Levy risks a significant reduction in the delivery of affordable housing and homes for social rent through the planning system.

The NHF will be submitting a response to the consultation on behalf of the sector. To help shape our response we’ve published a briefing that summarises the government’s proposals and highlights the key questions we’re seeking feedback on.

We are asking housing associations to get in touch and share their views by no later than 19 May ahead of the 9 June deadline for submissions to DLUHC.
