How many homes did housing associations build in quarter two 2019/20?

This briefing details the number of homes housing associations developed in the second quarter of this year (2019/20), plus numbers delivered in the twelve months to September 2019.

The key findings are: 

In the 12 months ending September 2019:

  • Housing associations started to build 51,213 homes, up 13.5% on September 2018 figures.
  • 43,666 of these were affordable homes, up 16.5% on September 2018 figures.
  • Housing associations also completed a total of 45,944 homes, up 7.9% on September 2018 figures.
  • 38,646 of these are affordable homes, up 5.5% on September 2018 figures.

In quarter two 2019/20:

  • Housing associations built 10,739 homes, an increase of 5.2% on the same quarter last year.
  • 8.945 of these are are affordable homes, an increase of 5.9% on the same quarter last year.
  • Housing associations started to build a total of 10,613 homes, down 3.7% on the same quarter last year.
  • 9,538 of these are are affordable homes, an increase of 4.7% on the same quarter last year.
  • 39% (4,136) of all homes started will be delivered outside the Affordable Homes Programme.
  • 46% (4,928) of homes completed were delivered outside the Affordable Homes Programme.
  • 48% (4,569) of affordable starts were delivered through Section 106 agreements.
