Help shape our response to the call for evidence on the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill

04 January 2024

The Public Bill Committee has launched a call for evidence on the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill. The Bill is the next part of the government’s plan to reform leasehold and freehold law and follows the Law Commission’s review into the subject.

The Bill seeks to make it cheaper and easier for existing leaseholders, whether living in houses or flats, to buy their freehold or extend their lease, while also introducing requirements which it says will increase transparency for leaseholders when it comes to service charges.

The NHF will be engaging with MPs and officials during the passage of this Bill through Parliament, and we will be submitting a response to the Public Bill Committee’s call for evidence on behalf of the sector.

To help shape our response, we are keen to hear members’ views on the implications for their businesses. In this briefing we’ve outlined the elements of the Bill that are relevant to housing associations, our view on what is being proposed, and the main points we’re seeking feedback on.
