Social housing sector remediation commitments

27 June 2025

During this year's Spending Review, the government announced that social landlords would be given equal access to building safety funding.

For the last six months, the NHF, alongside our members, has been working with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to develop a remediation strategy for the social housing sector. We have worked with officials to identify and mitigate the barriers to speeding up remedial work.

To support this strategy, we have worked with a small group of members, along with MHCLG to develop a set of building safety commitments for the sector.

This webinar examines how these commitments were designed and can be put in practice, sharing learnings from chief executives with large remediation programmes.

We are calling on members with buildings that have yet to begin remediation works to sign up to these commitments ahead of the Minister’s announcement of the social housing remediation strategy in July. Affected members will receive the full list of commitments via email.

The webinar also featured Helen Fisher from Homes England, who shared information about how the Cladding Safety Scheme will be working going forward and encouraging members to apply as soon as possible.
