The Mayor’s Housing Covenant
The Mayor of London published the first part of his housing covenant: Homes for Working Londoners earlier this year, asking housing providers and others for their feedback. The paper sets out proposals for revitalising and extending London’s intermediate housing offer. The Federation welcomes the Mayor’s focus on helping ordinary Londoners into affordable home ownership, and we look forward to working with him on improving London’s intermediate housing offer.
Key points covered are:
- Separating product from property
- Improving the secondary market
- Reconfiguring the First Steps Agents.

The Montague Review
On 23 August 2012, Sir Adrian Montague published his report into the private rented sector. This follows the Government’s latest attempt to identify the key barriers to attracting investment into the sector. The report suggests the potential of the sector and makes a series of recommendations, relating to the planning system, public sector land, upfront investment and standards.
This briefing summarises the report’s key findings and gives the Federation’s views on the recommendations made, particularly as they impact on housing associations.
