Night shelters instructed to remain closed

15 July 2020

Penny Hobman, Head of the government’s coronavirus Rough Sleeping Taskforce, has announced that night shelters currently closed due to the coronavirus outbreak should remain closed, despite the government’s lifting of other lockdown restrictions.

MHCLG is working with Public Health England on the issue of coronavirus transmission in communal rough sleeping accommodation settings, including night shelters, and will provide further advice in the coming weeks. We will monitor this closely and provide an update on the steps that providers may need to take to ensure night shelters can safely re-open, once it is available.
