Voluntary Right to Buy

Housing associations are working with the government to deliver its commitment to extend the Right to Buy to their tenants. As this scheme is a voluntary agreement, not legislated, it is called Voluntary Right to Buy (VRTB). The government pledged to push ahead with this commitment in its general election manifesto.

We’re working with our members to establish how VRTB will work in practice – making sure it delivers for tenants, for housing associations and for the government.

VRTB is currently being piloted in the Midlands.
