17 June 2019
The Government has proposed a fundamental reform of the building regulatory system, as outlined in a new consultation, Building a Safer Future.
This briefing provides an overview of the Government's consultation and what it means for housing associations. It covers key proposals, including:
- buildings in scope of the proposed new regulatory system
- the proposed new dutyholder regime
- ensuring residents have a voice
- the proposed building safety regulator
- the role of the regulator, including enforcement, compliance and sanctions.
In each section we've outlined questions that we hope you can respond to via our survey (see below).
Tell us what you think
The Federation will respond to the consultation on behalf of the housing association sector, so we want to hear what your organisation thinks of the proposals. By sharing your views, you’ll influence our response to the Government directly.
Complete our survey
We’ve produced a survey for sharing feedback, which is structured around the questions included in our briefing.
You can complete the survey via our website.
Although the consultation period ends on 31 July, to give us time to consider and reflect feedback from across the sector, please share your views by Monday 15 July.
Get in touch
We hope to hear from you through our consultation survey or at one of our upcoming events. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the Government’s consultation, or the Federation’s work on building safety more broadly, please get in touch.
