Demographic change and housing wealth

Our report explores projected changes in the population over the next two decades, including the rise in those of pension age and above, and the impact of this on housing wealth.

14 February 2018

The population of England is set to grow to around 9 million by 2039. It will also change significantly in that time, with the number of people of pension age rising by 5.7 million. This report looks at:

  • the impact of the ageing population on housing and care services
  • regional differences in population growth
  • how rural and urban areas are affected differently
  • how the demographic shift will affects housing wealth

We're publishing a series of blogs on issues arising from this report. The first looks at overall demographic changes and the ageing population – we'd like to hear from you on how you think housing will be affected.
