Our response to the consultation on additional flexibilities to support housing delivery

We’ve responded to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ consultation on additional flexibilities to support housing delivery which sought views on proposed changes to a number of permitted development rights.

In our response, we focus on permitted development as a whole, as well as the area of the consultation relating to supporting housing delivery, rather than each of the individual use classes as set out in the consultation.

In our response, we outline:

Why we need a long term plan for housing.
Our concerns about the quality, safety and location of homes converted previously under permitted development rights.
How affordable housing can be secured through permitted development rights.
The role modern methods of construction can play in commercial to residential conversions as a means of quickly boosting affordable housing supply.
