Tackling overheating in hot homes

25 June 2026

During the month of June 2026, the NHF and CIH partnered up to raise awareness of the risks of overheating in homes.

With the hazard of excess heat being included in phase two of Awaab’s Law, and the Warm Homes Plan including a focus on adaptation and overheating, it is more important than ever to ensure our residents' homes are safe, affordable and a comfortable temperature.

During this webinar, we hear about the lived experience of overheating, learn about the importance of nature-based and passive solutions, and how they can be deployed to support social housing residents and keep them safe during hot weather.

Speakers

  • Matthew Scott, Policy Manager (Net Zero and Sustainability), CIH
  • Polly Turton, Head of Climate Action and Public Health, Shade UK
  • Dr Jon Winder, post-doctoral Research Associate, Melting Metropolis project, University of Liverpool

The webinar was chaired by Lizzi Hearn, External Affairs Manager at the NHF.
